Michael Carbone Pequannock Township Accident Death, Driver killed by NJ transit train in Lincoln Park

Michael Charles Carbone, 77, a lifelong resident of Pequannock Township, and loving father and brother tragically passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024. Many people went to him for advice and to soak up the love, wisdom, and kindness that made him who he was. He liked to try new things and made friends with everyone he met. He welcome countless people who needed a kind hand, a listening ear, and an open heart.

When Michael Carbone, 77, of Pompton Plains, ignored the crossing gates at the Ryerson Road crossing in Lincoln Park at approximately 9:30 a.m., he was hit by Montclair-Boonton Line train 1074. A NJ Transit official stated on Monday, October 28. According to NJ Transit, a preliminary investigation revealed that when Carbone drove his car around the crossing gates and parked it squarely in the train’s path, the gates were in the down position and functioning as planned. At the scene, he was declared dead.

The train was expected to reach Hoboken at 10:30 a.m. after departing Hackettstown at 8:24 a.m. There were about 40 passengers and crew members on board, and no injuries were recorded. A bus was provided for passengers on the train.
